Andrea Malysh, whose paternal grandfather came to Vernon in 1903, performs with her dance troupe Sadok, which she started in 1999. The dance is called Pryvit, a traditional welcome dance. Malysh, head of the Okanagan-Thompson branch of the Ukraine Canada Congress, trained and danced in Ukraine and was also the artistic direction of a Ukrainian dance troupe in Australia.
Anniversary Events in the Okanagan
The three-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine Feb. 24, 2022, will be marked this weekend with rallies all across Canada, said Andrea Malysh, head of the Okanagan-Thompson branch of the Ukraine Canada Congress.
The Sadok Ukrainian dance troupe will perform at the One World Festival in Penticton at the Penticton Lakeside Resort at 1pm. Events are also organized for Vernon and Kelowna.
This year, instead of a rally, Vernon is holding a memorial service.
