Internationally exhibited artist, Oksana Zbrutska, is a visual artist who paints exclusively with oil on canvas. Oksana was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and recalls spending every summer of her childhood in a tiny village in the central region of the country. There she was surrounded by wonderful fields, filled with butterflies, swans, pheasants, hedgehogs and foxes. These summer experiences shaped her imagination, and to this day, she is fed by memories of her childhood.
In addition to her painting skills, Oksana began her musical training at the age of 9, and is a classically trained pianist and violinist with a passion for classical, folk and contemporary music. She has played with the Kyiv Philharmonic Orchestra.
Oksana began her education at the “Children’s’ School of Art No. 2” in Kyiv and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005 from the “National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture” and her Masters Degree (Specialist in Fine and Decorative Arts) was awarded in 2007. Oksana worked from 2015 to 2021 with the National Union of Artists of Ukraine teaching Master classes “en plein air” as well as art therapy.
Oksana Zbrutska is recognized as the founder of the ‘Ukrainian ethno-romantic’ style. The conceptual architecture consists of the romantic idea of a pure and even childishly naive world view combined with the ethnic genetic memory of the people. In 2022, she was awarded the honorary title of “Honoured Artist of Ukraine” (Decree No. 27), by President Zelensky. Shortly after receiving this award, the Russia Ukraine conflict began and Oksana found it necessary to flee from Ukraine with her father and her two sons. She is currently residing and painting in the South Okanagan.
Zbrutska’s paintings have been exhibited world wide, and are collected and housed in both private and corporate collections in Greece, Japan, China, Mexico, North America, and in Europe. Her distinctive style is joyful and a delight to behold.
“Every day, faced with the aggression of the modern outside world, I
paint pictures of the gentle world under the big sun with ever greater
persistence. My hope is that my paintings will find favour in peoples’
souls, and will warm their hearts. I hope they will inspire you to live, just
live and see this wonderful world around us.”
